Why the DNC is Hiding their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This decision by the Democratic National Committee to block the public viewing of its internal post-election analysis concerning the 2024 election seems shocking but entirely predictable. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the Democrats' governing body often functions more like a PR firm rather than a political organization devoted to cultivating grassroots capacities capable of prevailing at the polls.

An Environment of Conformity

Reluctant to depart from the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has stayed under the influence of the previous administration all through 2025. Publishing such a report would have indicated that party leaders actually want to foster open debate about the errors that paved the way for the former president to win re-election. Yet, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there's nothing to understand following the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: will this lead to victory? If the answer is no, it is an unnecessary diversion from what truly matters," a rationale reportedly given to justify concealing the report.

Major Failures a Report Might Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem of substance would tackle head-on a series of difficult topics. Among them are:

  • Electoral Alienation: Failing to retain of a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the Democratic ticket during the previous election was decisive during the tight recent race.
  • The Choice to Run: The stubborn decision of the incumbent to run again, and a last-minute step-aside, is seen by some as denying the party's base the chance for open primaries.
  • Failing Core Democratic Voters: During a time of rising costs, the electoral effort is criticized for ceding to corporate donors' interests without successfully attempting to confront the effects of big business.
  • A Gaza Effect: An unwillingness to shift an approach on the situation in Gaza is cited as driving away significant blocs, especially with young people, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Young Voter Support: Research shows a huge decline in votes for the candidate among young voters.

A History Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy aligns with a longstanding habit to avoid hard truths. This mirrors an episode in which the vast majority of Democratic officeholder in Washington supported an incumbent's determination to running for re-election right up until a disastrous televised debate led to an exit.

Concurrently, overwhelming numbers of Democratic voters were consistently telling surveyors of their opposition to that candidate to be the nominee.

Campaign Spending Issues

An honest report would also examine questions regarding campaign spending, including what sums flowed to high-priced advisors and media firms during an electoral effort which expended a staggering amount over a few months.

A Larger Problem

Ultimately, the secrecy surrounding this report is symptomatic of a submission to the existing power structure responsible for an unsuccessful national race. The signal to the party's base – including countless dedicated activists – appears to be that they do not have a right to understand what party chiefs have learned from an analysis drawing from feedback from all states.

An organization incapable to publicly examine its own failings is unlikely to escape the pattern that ended up being so advantageous to the rival party.
